The Wamkos 40" Rebounder has a cushioned safety rim with a fun camouflage print and includes resistance bands to kick your workout up a notch. This trampoline feels great to bounce on and is easy to transport, too. Even if you are on the tall side, the 40-inch diameter should work out well, and the cushioned rim provides some peace of mind if you decide to jump shoeless. Despite the small squeak we experienced when using this model, it remained our favorite spring-style trampoline.
A great feature of the Wamkos 40" Rebounder is the locking latches that ensure it doesn't accidentally fold up when moving it around. All in all, we think adults and children alike will enjoy this product that facilitates a good workout and remains durable over many uses. It doesn't come with a travel bag, but it easily folds and packs for park or picnic trips.
Max Jumper Weight: 200 lbs | Bounce Type: Elastic Straps
REASONS TO BUY
Very light and quick to assemble
Carrying bag included for easy transport
Fitness Class Approved: silent bounce and wide diameter
REASONS TO AVOID
Small bounce for medium and large users
Flimsy protective rim
The SereneLife 40" Portable Foldable Trampoline stands out as a cheerful, fun piece of exercise equipment at a great price. Beyond that, we think this is a great product for fitness classes—so long as you're a smaller jumper. The maximum quoted weight is 200 lbs, however, the bounce already felt strained for our testers weighing around 120 lbs. It was possible to hit the ground while jumping. Still, we love that this trampoline is silent, light, and comes with a portable carrying case.
The SereneLife Portable 40" trampoline is also a versatile product. It performs well for fitness classes, and it appears safe and fun for children. The support handle is slightly wobbly, but it is adjustable to different heights and is very comfortable. If you are a smaller person wanting a storable and transportable product to help you enter into the trampoline world without too much of an investment, this product is a good choice for you.
Max Jumper Weight: 330 lbs | Bounce Type: Bungee Bands
REASONS TO BUY
Wide-set legs for maximum stability
Professional-level fitness quality
REASONS TO AVOID
Not foldable, portable, or easy to disassemble
Takes up a lot of 3D space
Dexterity required to assemble elastic bands
The Leikefitness Professional 50-Inch Trampoline is a similar model to what we see in a lot of studio fitness classes. Its hexagonal design and wide-set legs make it both appear and feel stable while bouncing. Its bungee system is on the firmer end, making the user exert more energy to bounce. Its large diameter and stable base made it a favorite for our larger bouncers.
A downside is that this product is not super portable. Assembly requires stringing on 30+ different bungee elastics and popping together six base pieces. This model doesn't fold up, nor are the legs removable. To be useful, owners must have enough free space for the Leikefitness Professional 50-Inch trampoline to remain assembled in its entirety. That being said, we found the product to be durable, safe, comfortable, and fun to use.
Small diameter makes it less suited for fitness classes
The BCAN 40" Foldable Mini trampoline rides the line between providing a professional fitness workout and a leisurely bouncing activity for adults or children. If you're a young, amateur, or hesitant user, the supportive foam handle allows for extra balance and safety.
The main negative of the BCAN 40" Foldable Mini is squeaking springs. The protective pad is durable, and the bounce is more comfortable than on the 38-inch BCAN trampoline. This product might spark the interest of an amateur or aspiring trampoliner. Although it is not as large or comfortable as professional competitors, this product is easily stored and great in areas with limited space.
Foldable, and comes with a stylish carrying bag for transport
REASONS TO AVOID
Safety concerns due to unstable base and support bar and exposed springs
Heavy when all pieces are packed up (30+lbs)
Expensive
The MaXimus PRO Folding Rebounder came with high expectations. This basic trampoline includes a support bar, two sets of exercise bands with varying resistance, and two one-pound sand weights. It also comes with a DVD with ten intro professional trampoline fitness classes and a free online three-month trial to access hundreds of more classes. The design is easily portable with a custom carrying bag, and assembly is uncomplicated. The price of this product seems geared toward those invested in trampoline fitness.
Considering this high price, we are surprised at the MaXimus PRO Folding Rebounder's instability. Instead of a screw-in base like most designs, the feet of the trampoline pop into place, which makes both the base and the supportive handle wobbly. Despite the rim covering, the springs are still half-exposed and appear to be the perfect snag for long shoelaces. This product does come with a support handle, but the handle's height isn't adjustable. It also claims to provide professional-level bounce ability, but our team felt it didn't hit the mark compared to other brands' comfort and safety.
When you hear “mini-trampoline,” the BCAN 38" Foldable Mini is exactly what you might picture. The blue rim is familiar, the springs are slightly squeaky, and the quality is average, but you can bounce on it. Assembly is simple and requires minimal instruction, taking about 8 minutes. With only a small number of pieces and a foldable design, you can easily pack up this trampoline for storage or transport for a variety of uses. This product is great for both indoor and outdoor use and is kid-friendly.
The BCAN 38" Foldable Mini trampoline is not well-suited for fitness classes. The diameter is quite small for this use, and the bounce is firm, causing you to feel more impact and less comfort than on other designs. Additionally, the springs on this product sometimes fell out during assembly and squeak during use. This product is better suited for the casual adult (or better yet, child) bouncer hoping for occasional fun and recreational use rather than for fitness.
Why Trust GearLab
There are many qualities to consider when choosing a personal exercise trampoline. Our list includes bounce quality, product safety, assembly and disassembly, and storage. We weighed each product, recorded assembly time, tested stability, and compared bounce quality. We then rated each trampoline's bounce in terms of comfort and amplitude. Lastly, we categorized each trampoline for users by type of bounce: springs, elastic straps, and bungees.
Claire Skatch was our enthusiastic and fearless team lead for this exercise-heavy review. As a retired gymnast and current fitness enthusiast, she has taken hundreds of workout classes at studios around the country. In doing so, she has used fitness machinery of all kinds and done trampoline workouts of all levels and intensities. With a background in trampolines during her gymnastics career combined with her current fitness exploits, this is an area in which Claire shines. Claire helped us choose these popular and unique trampolines and sweated it out while evaluating each one.
Analysis and Test Results
To create this comprehensive product evaluation, we put each exercise trampoline through rigorous tests. We took time assembling, learning about, and working out on each. We also let a team of bouncers try the products and offer feedback. In the end, we evaluated the following metrics to help buyers make their choice: assembly, stability/safety, performance, and portability/storage.
Assembly
Assembly was an unexpected challenge for some of these trampolines. Although most were simple and straightforward (a small investment of 10-15 minutes from opening the box to jumping), others were more complex. All but one of our exercise trampolines came folded in quarters, requiring the user to simply unfold and pop open the body and screw on 6-8 leg posts. Instructional booklets and some included tools made this easy work. When support handles were included, or if the user had to assemble the bounce mechanism, the assembly became more complicated.
The MaXimus PRO Folding Rebounder, SereneLife Portable & Foldable 40", BCAN 38" Foldable Mini, and the Wamkos 40" Rebounder had the easiest and fastest assembly, taking under 10 minutes. The Leikefitness Professional 50-Inch was the most difficult and slowest to assemble, taking 40 minutes and a lot of brain and muscle power. The hexagonal base comes in six metal pieces that pop together, and then the netting must be strung on with 36 individual elastic bands. The bands are tight, and the technique is sensitive and finicky. It took multiple sets of hands at one point to secure the first bands in place. To its credit, the Leikefitness has a colorful and thorough instruction booklet that's easy to follow.
Stability and Safety
From the evaluation of how stable users felt on each trampoline to the safety features included in the designs, we investigated each product to give a full report. Springs create an element of risk (think pinching and catching). All of our spring designs had a safety covering pad. The safety pad on the Wamkos 40" Rebounder was the most comfortable and well-fitting, while the pad on the MaXimus PRO Folding Rebounder left a portion of the springs and hooks exposed in a seemingly risky manner. Also, several of the spring trampolines had springs fall off or become askew during assembly or disassembly. The bungee trampolines excelled in the safety category. We also liked that out of the models with collapsible designs, the SereneLife Portable & Foldable 40" and the Wamkos 40" Rebounder had safety pins to ensure the trampoline wouldn't fold prematurely.
For stability, we evaluated the feet, the base, and the handle separately. The feet determine the surface the trampoline can be used on. Most of the feet on these trampolines sunk in when used on surfaces like sand or soft grass, and some of the feet became stuck in the dirt. As for the trampoline bases, all designs were satisfactorily stable while bouncing except for the MaXimus PRO Folding Rebounder, which rocks side to side with every bounce. When we tested support handles, every product had handle mobility of approximately one centimeter. The most stable handles were the SereneLife Portable & Foldable 40" (1 inch) and the Leikefitness Professional 50-Inch (1 inch).
Performance
When evaluating performance, we looked at three main categories: bounce, versatility, and noise. Bounce was quantified using comfort and magnitude scales. Comfort had to do with the impact felt during jumping, while magnitude was how high of bounce jumpers achieved. The lowest impact and highest bounce came from the Leikefitness Professional 50-Inch. The highest impact and lowest bounce came from the BCAN 38" Foldable Mini, which was firm and barely depressible. When used by larger folks, the lowest bounce and most depressible product was the SereneLife Portable & Foldable 40", where users were able to hit the ground while bouncing.
For the more intense trampoline enthusiast, classes involve much more than just bounce. Classes can include squats, crunches, pushups, stretches, and work on the whole body. We found that larger diameter products such as the Leikefitness Professional 50-Inch and the SereneLife Portable & Foldable 40" allowed for better and more comprehensive workouts. When strong and stable, adding a support bar (see the comparisons in the previous section) can help maximize bounce and intensify a workout. We were also impressed by the added workout possibilities on the Wamkos 40" Rebounder and the MaXimus PRO Folding Rebounder. Both came with attached resistance bands, and the MaXimus PRO came with weight bags.
Lastly, how could we evaluate performance without addressing the elephant in the room: trampolines are infamous for making noise. Although some may care less about noise, you may be one of us who finds frequent squeaking distracting during a workout. Our take-home is: the elastic trampolines are fairly silent, and spring trampolines are not. The following is our complete ranking from quietest to loudest bounce: SereneLife Portable & Foldable 40" (silent), Leikefitness Professional 50-Inch (almost complete silence), Wamkos 40" Rebounder (slight squeaking, but the quietest of the spring options), BCAN 38" Foldable Mini (a moderately quiet spring option which could be explained because it also has minimal bounce), MaXimus PRO Folding Rebounder (surprisingly a lot of noise from both an unstable base and squeaky springs), and BCAN 40" Foldable Mini (max level of spring squeak).
Portability and Storage
Depending on your trampolining goals, these two factors may or may not be crucial. Easy carrying is a huge perk if you want to transport your trampoline to various bounce locations. In this metric, the SereneLife Portable & Foldable 40" is by far the best design. Within a few minutes, you can have the entire 18 lb trampoline and support bars packed up in a light, stylish, easy-to-use velcro carrying case. The MaXimus PRO Folding Rebounder also comes with a carrying case, but the entire product is heavy (over 30 lbs), so carrying it for long distances can be difficult and uncomfortable.
All other trampolines except for the Leikefitness Professional 50-Inch can be folded and transported but would need to be returned to their original shipping box or carried in a large/sturdy reusable bag/bin. Product weight additionally makes transport more difficult so we've ranked the products from lightest to heaviest: the BCAN 38" Foldable Mini (16lbs), the SereneLife Portable & Foldable 40" (18lbs), the Wamkos 40" Rebounder (22lbs), the BCAN 40" Foldable Mini (24lbs), the Leikefitness Professional 50-Inch (28lbs), and the MaXimus PRO Folding Rebounder (32lbs). Lastly, all products are more portable without the support handle. The bars can be easily removed, and the trampolines can be fully installed without them for transport and use.
Storage is also key if you don't have ample floor space to leave your trampoline out for daily use. The Leikefitness Professional 50-Inch takes up an enormous amount of floor space. Once assembled, it would be very difficult to disassemble (apart from removing the support handle), so consider it a permanent addition to your home. All of the other products are fairly easy to store. They can be disassembled, folded, and stored under a bed or in a closet. If you don't want to fold the trampoline, the legs of these designs can be easily removed, leaving the circular or octagonal frame (approximately 1.5-3 inches thick) perfect for propping in a closet, behind a dresser/couch, or against a wall. The addition of a support bar adds a slight barrier to the storage process. However, all bars were quick and easy to remove.
Conclusion
There are more ways than one can imagine to use an exercise trampoline. As a buyer, you must first look at your specific goals before purchasing. Do you want to get in a little cardio in front of the TV? Do you want a fun addition to your workout room that also doubles as entertainment for children? Do you want a portable trampoline to bring bounce to outdoor gatherings? Or do you want hard-core fitness training and full-body workouts? Once you understand how you'd like to use your trampoline, it's much easier to pick a product. If we've learned anything from this review, it's that there is the perfect trampoline for every user; it's just up to you to make the decision. Happy bouncing!
